Sustainability
Transferable skills that last for life

Instead of telling our young clients what to do, we guide them through a process that enables them to learn for themselves how to solve problems strategically.

Our quality of delivery is second to none, and this has a direct impact on longterm sustainability.

Some other interventions leave participants on cloud nine, but after two weeks they are back to normal, with no noticeable change.

Hanover’s long-term approach means that our young clients practice problem-solving and goal-setting skills in every session, which serves to embed the learningThis not only helps them achieve in the short term but also stands them in good stead for life. We also regularly hear about the knock-on effects of our work, including better family relationships.

Our graduates tell us that the skills they learned continue to help them – at university, at work, in life.

Our programmes develop skills and qualities that employers are crying out for, such as motivation, resilience and social skills. “Because of the experience I gained with Hanover, a year later at just 18 I was able to get a job as a youth worker. I had the edge that people 5 years older than me didn’t have. And I never thought I’d go to university!” (Hanover Co-coaching graduate)

Impacting the wider community

Furthermore, qualitative research strongly suggests that the impact of our work is not limited to the group selected for coaching.  It is noted by teachers in particular that having Hanover coaching in the school creates a cumulative, positive impact on the learning environment.

By working with an entire year-group or similar large group of peers over a period of 12 months, the culture becomes embedded.  Personal responsibly, a creative approach to problem-solving, higher motivation and peer support begin to infuse the atmosphere. "Whole communities can change from a core number of people who begin taking their own initiative." Serena Standing, CEO

"The strategies I discussed with my coach helped me through school and since.  They have really helped me to make some of the right choices and deal with the difficult knock backs in
life.

Former Hanover client

My daughter only attended school about half the time. She saw her coach all through year 10 - and in year 11 her attendance was 98%.

Almost all the students referred due to behaviour concerns in Year 10, who then had coaching, were NOT referred for bad behaviour in Year 11.
